Digital Marketing Work Experience 2026

My week at a digital marketing agency

This week I participated in a week’s worth of work experience at axon point, throughout the week I developed key knowledge that is used in the digital marketing industry, this included search engine optimisation, SE rankings, local link building, and how digital marketing can utilise ai to create strategies for their clients. It was extremely valuable and allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of what the workplace looks like.

I’m currently a sixth form student studying media studies, sociology and business so these subjects supported me during this week as I have covered some marketing strategies in my A levels.

At the beginning of the week, I was introduced to bright local, a digital marketing tool that provides training for all levels such as beginner, intermediate and master. The training course I learnt from was ‘a beginners guide to local SEO’ this course allowed me to gain an insight into what SEO is and how businesses can use local SEO to gain more traffic on their websites. I also learnt key areas such as why keywords are important and how high-quality content can influence a website ranking. Later that day, Jave (host of work experience) allowed me to apply what I had learnt from the course to 3 websites of my choice.  By this training it gave me a solid foundation for the rest of the week.

My second day at axon point focused on local link building and how it can support SE rankings. From this training I learnt key definitions such as inbound links, no follow links, how to avoid links could cause errors within a website and how to build local links through the local communities. by using this training, I then applied this to the 3 websites of my choice and Jave gave me the opportunity to create my own project to perform an analysis of the se rankings of the 3 websites. This hands-on experience therefore provided a deeper understanding which would also be used in a digital marketing agency. Towards the end of the day, axons point employee Chris ran a workshop which was local SEO in Beeston. By listening to the workshop, it helped me understand how important local SEO is to businesses, it also then led me to gain a deeper understanding to the hub and spoke model.

The third days task was to create hub and spoke models of the 3 websites of my choice by analysing their websites,  at the end of the day, I was able to create in depth content wheels that the websites had and by reviewing them it allowed me to see which websites needed improving the most due to the lack of content.

My fourth day at work experience focussed on condensing what I had learnt this week at axon point. My first task of the day was to use Claude ai to build out content wheels and give suitable suggestions about keywords that wild improve the websites traffic, this was extremely helpful to see how useful ai can be. My last task was to also complete and analysis on SE RANKING this included analysing what key words the websites should use that their competitors do and lastly analysing the websites audit which provides a deeper insight into what each websites health score is.

Overall, my week at work experience was extremely helpful due to axon point providing me valuable training that has earnt me certifications that will be beneficial when applying for uni course or even jobs. The team at axon point was very warming and inclusive of me which has helped me settle in nicely throughout the week, all employees asked if there was anything they could do to help which made me feel very comfortable, I would highly recommend work experience at axon point if your particularly interested in digital marketing.
